Today I slept in quite a bit and got up around 11h00. It was really great to just rest a lot. After I got up, I got around and Clem, Tanis, and I decided to go the market in Makeni. We were going to take motorbikes, but Tanis was too afraid so we ended up walking, and it’s about an hour and a half walk. The entire time people were yelling, “Apoto! Apoto!” (white person) and asking us for money and food. It got old very fast, and people kept hissing and making kissy noises to get our attention. When we got to town, we walked around to try and find the Sierratel office, which is where people told me I could buy a modem. After getting like four different directions, I finally figured out that there isn’t a Sierratel office in Makeni, so when John goes to Freetown this week I’ll have him get it for us.
While we were at the market, all we really did was get fabric to make some clothing and things, and then went to the tailor. I got four different fabric patterns, but only got things made out of two of them, a dress and a skirt. The fabric is very African, so I got things made that are in more of western style, so that I can wear them in the U.S. and not feel too out of place. On the way back I took a motorbike while Clem and Tanis walked because I had to use the bathroom. I found a guy who was very good, drove nice and slowly and had a very new looking bike. I got back just fine, and showered because I was so sweaty.
We all read and hung out a bit until dinnertime when we left for The Club House, which is a restaurant run by expats for expats, and has western food like pizza and burgers. We took Dr. ABD there to say Happy Father’s Day, and to say goodbye to Charlotte and Nicole, who are leaving tomorrow.
All in all, a very restful day. Night all!
